A focused workflow for difficult datasets
Large registered point clouds are frequently delivered as a single E57 file containing an entire industrial plant, building or infrastructure project. These files can be too large for a conventional load-edit-save workflow and may require hours of repetitive preparation before they can be used efficiently in CAD, BIM or coordination software.
CloudCutter is built specifically around this stage of the workflow. It allows the operator to:
- open and progressively visualise very large point clouds;
- work with datasets considerably larger than available system memory;
- define horizontal and vertical spatial selections;
- save multiple selections before export;
- create several independent output files through one export workflow;
- convert between supported engineering point-cloud formats;
- preserve RGB information where it is available in the source;
- validate the resulting files through a repeatable process.
CloudCutter does not attempt to replace registration, scan-to-BIM, modelling or advanced inspection software. It prepares large point-cloud data so that downstream tools can receive files of a practical size and scope.
Proven on a 10.81-billion-point E57 dataset
CloudCutter has been benchmarked with a registered structured E57 source containing:
- 244.54 GiB of source data;
- 10.81 billion points;
- 249 registered structured scans with RGB.
The test was completed on a desktop computer with 24 GiB of RAM. One export workflow produced six RGB E57 files containing a total of 473.6 million points and 8.42 GiB of output data. All six files passed automatic validation, and the repeated run reproduced the same point counts and file sizes.
The published reports document both successful results and areas still being optimised. This transparent testing process is part of CloudCutter development: performance claims should be measurable and reproducible on real engineering datasets.

The standard licence is assigned to a designated company workstation. Different authorised employees of the same company may use CloudCutter on that workstation, subject to the commercial licence agreement.
Multi-workstation and company-wide requirements can be prepared by quotation.
Price
There are no additional charges based on:
- the number of projects;
- the number of source files;
- the volume of point-cloud data;
- the number of saved selections;
- the number or total size of exported files.
Why an annual licence?
Point-cloud formats, scanner outputs and engineering software environments continue to evolve. The annual model allows the commercial version to include ongoing compatibility work, performance improvements, validation updates and support rather than separating these into paid upgrades.
For an engineering company, it also provides a clear and predictable project cost. The value of the licence does not depend on processing a particular number of gigabytes. A company may use it for occasional exceptionally large projects or as a regular part of its point-cloud preparation workflow.
Who is the commercial version for?
CloudCutter Commercial is intended for organisations that use point-cloud data in production, including:
- engineering and EPC companies;
- laser-scanning and surveying companies;
- industrial plant and infrastructure teams;
- BIM and digital-construction departments;
- scan-to-CAD and scan-to-BIM service providers;
- companies preparing point clouds for Autodesk, Bentley, AVEVA or other downstream engineering environments.
It is particularly relevant when a company receives very large registered files but only needs selected buildings, levels, zones, equipment areas or vertical sections for downstream work.
Trial before commercial deployment
A trial version is available so that the workflow can be evaluated with the company’s own point-cloud data before purchasing a commercial licence.
Testing with a real project is recommended. Point clouds differ substantially in structure, density, attributes and storage layout, so a representative company dataset provides more useful information than a small demonstration file.

Frequently asked questions
Is the price calculated per file or per gigabyte?
No. The annual commercial licence includes unlimited projects and exports. CloudCutter does not charge according to file size, data volume or the number of generated files.
Can several employees use one licence?
The standard licence is assigned to one designated company workstation rather than one named employee. Authorised employees of the same company may therefore use CloudCutter on that licensed workstation.
Can the licence be moved to another computer?
Yes. A licence transfer can be requested when the designated workstation is permanently replaced or must be repaired. The licence may not remain active on both computers after the transfer.
Does CloudCutter replace point-cloud registration software?
No. CloudCutter is intended primarily for visualisation, spatial division, conversion and multi-output export of already available point-cloud data. Registration, advanced classification, modelling and scan-to-BIM production remain tasks for specialised downstream software.
Are updates included?
Yes. Updates released during the active 12-month licence period are included.
Are multi-workstation licences available?
