The same 5 GB E57 source was opened in CloudCutter_E57 and FARO Scene to observe two practical aspects: reading behavior and export workflow.
Reported reading observations
- CloudCutter_E57: 1 minute 18 seconds, with very low observed memory growth.
- FARO Scene: 1 minute 34 seconds, with approximately 35 percent memory use reported during the test.
- CloudCutter allowed selection work to begin before the complete reading process had finished.
Reported export observations
- CloudCutter_E57: 6 minutes 40 seconds for eight output files.
- FARO Scene: 2 minutes 50 seconds for one output file.
These export numbers describe different output workloads and must not be interpreted as a direct speed ratio. The test was useful because it revealed workflow behavior, not because it established a universal winner.
FARO Scene is a major professional platform for scan processing and registration. CloudCutter is a specialized additional tool focused on preparing large registered datasets for downstream engineering work with controlled memory use and multi-output operations.
Later CloudCutter benchmark publications introduce stronger methodology: defined datasets, hardware disclosure, cold and repeated runs, separated operator and machine time, and automatic output validation.
Working with large E57 files before FARO Scene or downstream CAD
CloudCutter is not a FARO Scene replacement. The tools address different parts of the workflow. The narrower CloudCutter use case is to inspect, spatially divide and export registered point-cloud data before it reaches a downstream application that may only need part of the project.
